Perception of color and form

This project investigates the relation between form and color signals in the human brain. The central question is to determine whether these two attributes are treated independently within the cortical visual network, or not. The project consists of a set psychophysical and physiological studies performed in my laboratory and abroad. We currently use adaptation protocols in psychophysical, EEG and imaging (fMRI) experiments to characterize the properties of form selective mechanisms in the human brain. We use Glass patterns as stimuli, since they are perfectly suited to probe intermediate stages of form processing. This project is a collaborative effort between my laboratory and that of C. van der Leuwen at RIKEN (Japan).
